Privacy policy

Plain language first. The short version: we collect what we need to run your widgets and nothing we could sell.

Who we are

Widgev is operated by [Your company legal name], [Registered address], [Country] (“we”, “us”). We are the data controller for information about our customers, and a data processor for the responses your widgets collect from your visitors. Questions: privacy@widgev.com.

Two kinds of people

This policy covers two groups, and they are treated differently.

  • Customers: people who build widgets with Widgev.
  • Visitors: people who see or fill in a widget on a customer's website. The customer decides what the widget asks; we store the answers on their behalf.

What we collect from customers

  • Account: an anonymous account is created when you first open the app, so you can build without signing up. If you add an email, we store it to let you sign in and to send account emails.
  • Your widgets: the descriptions you write, the widgets we build from them, your categories and rules.
  • Usage: pages you open in the app, actions you take, and technical details such as browser type and IP address, used for security and to fix problems.
  • Billing: handled by our payment provider. We store your plan and invoices, never your card number.
  • Support: what you send us when you contact support.

What we collect from visitors

  • Responses: whatever the widget asks for and the visitor submits, for example an email, a message, or numbers entered into a calculator.
  • Context: the page the widget was on, the referring page, browser type and an IP address, used to count views, filter spam and detect abuse.

We do not use visitor responses for advertising, profiling across sites, or training anything. Responses are processed only to sort, filter and deliver them to the customer according to the customer's settings.

How we use information

  • To build, host and display widgets, and to store, sort and route responses.
  • To run automated sorting and spam filtering on responses. This uses automated systems, including AI. The outcome is a label the customer sees; it does not produce legal effects for the visitor.
  • To operate accounts, billing and support.
  • To keep the service secure and to prevent abuse.
  • To improve the product using aggregated usage statistics.

Legal bases (EEA and UK)

  • Contract: providing the service to customers.
  • Legitimate interests: security, abuse prevention, product improvement, and processing visitor responses on behalf of customers.
  • Consent: marketing emails, which you can withdraw at any time.
  • Legal obligation: tax and accounting records.

Who we share it with

We use a small number of service providers to run Widgev: cloud hosting and databases, an email delivery service, a payment provider, error monitoring, and AI providers that process response text to sort it. Each provider is bound by a data processing agreement and only processes data on our instructions. We do not sell personal data. A current list of subprocessors is available on request at privacy@widgev.com.

Customers can also choose to send responses to their own tools (for example through a webhook). Once sent, that data is governed by the customer's and the receiving tool's policies.

International transfers

Our providers may process data in the United States and the European Union. Where data leaves the EEA or UK we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision.

How long we keep it

  • Responses: for as long as the customer keeps the widget, plus 30 days after deletion for recovery. Customers can delete individual responses at any time.
  • Accounts: for as long as the account is active. Anonymous accounts that never publish a widget are deleted after 90 days of inactivity.
  • Logs: up to 90 days.
  • Billing records: as long as tax law requires.

Cookies

The app uses one strictly necessary cookie to keep you signed in. The marketing site and embedded widgets set no advertising or tracking cookies, which is why you see no cookie banner. If we add analytics that need consent, we will ask first.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, to object to or restrict processing, and to complain to a supervisory authority. Customers can export and delete their data from the app. Visitors should contact the customer whose widget they used; if you cannot reach them, email us and we will help. We answer within 30 days.

California residents: we do not sell or share personal information as defined by the CCPA, and we honour the rights described above.

Children

Widgev is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their data. Customers must not build widgets aimed at children without appropriate consent.

Changes

We will post changes here and, for material changes, email customers. See also our terms of service and security page.
